MEIOFAUNA IN TROPICAL MONTANE STREAMS: BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC FACTORS REGULATING COMMUNITIES

نویسندگان

چکیده

Meiofauna is a group of heterotrophic organisms smaller than macroinvertebrates but larger microfauna and characterized by groups such as testate amoebae, ciliates, nematodes. They are link between bacteria resources macroinvertebrates. However, tropical meiofauna poorly studied; thus, our goal was to characterize meiofaunal community composition abundance assess potential environmental variables controlling these dynamics. Monthly samplings were conducted for eight months in Quebrada Prieta, El Yunque National Forest, Puerto Rico. Sampling made 12 pools, data on discharge, sediment characteristics, biotic also collected. A total 62 morphospecies identified, with nematodes dominating the community, followed amoebae. Bacterivores detritivores taxa dominated community. Meiofaunal negatively related discharge positively percentage coarse sand, nitrate, macroinvertebrate abundance. The Prieta like reported temperate streams, at least major present. In contrast, streams often rotifers Both abiotic important communities headwater

Abiotic and biotic factors regulating dynamics of bacterioplankton in a large shallow lake.

Lake Võrtsjärv (270 km2, mean depth 2.8 m, Estonia) is an eutrophic and turbid lake (Secchi depth 0.5-1 m) with a high nutrient load (total nitrogen 1-2 mg N l(-1), total phosphorus approximately 50 microg P l(-1)) leading to a highly productive phytoplankton population (average chlorophyll a concentration 24 microg l(-1)). Seasonal dynamics of the main members of pelagic microbial loop - phyto...

Abiotic and Biotic Factors Regulating Inter-Kingdom Engagement between Insects and Microbe Activity on Vertebrate Remains

Abstract: A number of abiotic and biotic factors are known to regulate arthropod attraction, colonization, and utilization of decomposing vertebrate remains. Such information is critical when assessing arthropod evidence associated with said remains in terms of forensic relevance. Interactions are not limited to just between the resource and arthropods. There is another biotic factor that has b...

Assembly of root-associated bacteria communities: interactions between abiotic and biotic factors.

Nitrogen (N) deposition in many areas of the world is over an order of magnitude greater than it would be in absence of human activity. We ask how abiotic (N)and biotic (plant host and neighborhood) effects interact to influence root-associated bacterial (RAB)community assembly. Using 454 pyrosequencing, we examined RAB communities from two dominantal pine tundra plants, Geum rossii and Descham...
